The Classical Guitar
A classical guitar will differ greatly from an electric guitar, and very slightly from the acoustic guitars made popular by celebrities like Sheryl Crow and James Taylor. You can recognize the classical guitar by its wider neck which, allows for more finger, and hand movement, which is compulsory for this style of music.

The instrument will also have gut or nylon strings as opposed to the metal strings of the other guitars. Last but not least, the main body of the instrument is a bit smaller when compared to the rest of it, unlike acoustic guitars which have larger bodies. If you want to learn to play classical guitar, it is crucial that you start by using the proper instrument, or you may end up developing ad habits which will affect your performance in the future.

The Actual Music
Generally, classical guitar music uses standard music notation, which means lines and spaces mark musical notes, duration, signatures, clefs, and so on. If you have never had a musical education, it is best that you take the time and learn the fundamentals before beginning the courses, as this will make your mission much easier.

In addition, a lot of this can be learned online, so classical guitar music is practically within your reach at any time of the day or night. Classical guitar music will also be represented in tablature or ‘tabs’ form, which is basically a diagram of strings which uses numbers to show the frets. Although easier to read that standard notes, guitar tabs do not show you how long notes are supposed to be, so you have to figure out the duration by yourself.
