You should really learn a skipping 6. A string 12 is played the same as that of a channel 6, but the strings are doubled (two strings close together). Given that the neck is wide, it is difficult to fret the strings with the left hand, and it is more difficult to pull the string on the right with your right hand. I would never advise a guitarist to start learning on a 12 string guitar. Once you learn to play but a chain of 12 is great.
