When you are only beginning to learn how to play the guitar, you may be tempted to give up those boring things such as chords or scales and go straight to learning actual songs. You need to bear in mind, though, that without a solid foundation, you may never learn how to master this complex instrument.

So what you have to do is learn simple guitar chords before attempting any songs. If you come to think of it, songs are actually based on chords. Because chords are the very foundation of guitar playing, you must learn simple chords if you ever want to make music. Only if you skip the basics and want everything too soon you will feel frustrated and quit playing the guitar.

Hire A Guitar Teacher
The best method to learn simple guitar chords is to hire a private guitar teacher. There is more than one reason to it. In the first place, a teacher will organize your progress around a schedule. When you learn on your own, it is very easy not to keep up the good work, so that is why your teacher will help with your motivation.

The other good reason to hire a private guitar teacher is that the teacher will assess your performance and give you honest feedback on how to improve your playing. It does not really matter what kind of music you intend to play; to learn the chords is a must. You can either learn simple guitar chords or learn jazz guitar chords, but you cannot avoid learning chords if you ever want to play real music.

Practice Makes Perfect
Besides having a good guitar teacher guiding you as you learn the guitar, you should also strive to get as much practice as you can possibly fit into your schedule. You should not even consider hiring your own private teacher if you do not intend to practice all you can. It will not make any difference if you learn simple guitar chords all day but do not take what you have learned further by practicing.

And this is something you need to do when your teacher is not around watching your every move. If you start the right way and learn simple guitar chords, you will soon master the instrument and, who knows, you may become so good at it to even teach others!
